    Default Coca-Cola injection

I know that some folks inject their Boston Butts with straight Coca-cola.

I'm wondering though, just how common it is, are any of ya'll using it on a regular basis?

    Not here.

Can't say that I know anyone that does it. Is it a regional thing maybe?

    Never used cola to inject...
Could be for the phosphates, as a moisture carrier...?

Last mention of it I recall was on last seasons dreadful BBQ Pitmasters where a contestant was asked by Myron Mixon what he had injected his pork with, and I also think the big dude from Iowa(Mo? Bo?) mentioned using it as well at some point.

I've heard of using it as a marinade. Keep us posted as to how it works out.

Now that you mention it, Big Moe Cason from Ponderosa BBQ did use an injection of Coke and some other stuff...

I have seen Dr Pepper and I think Coke made into a BBQ sauce. Will have to look next time I go to the meat market.

Dr. Pepper is my Soda of choice and a I use it in all sorts of cooking any hoo here is the Official Dr. Pepper BBq Sauce recipe:
    Ingredients:
1-1/2 to 2-1/2 cups Dr. Pepper (not diet)
    1/2 cup oil
    1/2 cup lemon juice
    1 cup ketchup
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/4 cup dry minced onion
    2 teaspoons salt
    1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper (may substitute 1/4 teaspoon Tabasco)
    1 teaspoon basil
    Preparation:
Blend soda, oil, lemon juice, ketchup, garlic powder, onion, salt, pepper, red pepper, and basil together on stir speed of blender for 2 minutes.

Store in tightly sealed container and refrigerate. Shake well before using. Will keep for several weeks in the refrigerator.

    Yield: 3 cups

Recipe Source: Dr Pepper Co. Museum, Waco, Texas

I'm not a big Sauce guy but this is prettty good. I have used Cherry Dr. Pepper and it goes well with pork.
