    Default direct heat bbq ?

    i'm building a 240 gal direct heat (like a large horizontal uds) and i have 4 2" exhaust, my question is i want 2 air intakes one on each end so how large do they need to be? thanks in advance, tim!

    There is prolly some fancy calculation to do this, but I would get the biggest ball valve you can afford. You can always close it a tad, but ya can't make it bigger on the fly.

    I've got a drum with two intakes. One is a 1" ball valve the other is a 3/4 ball valve. I don't have problems getting temps with it like that.

    I'd use 1 1/2" and choke it if need be.

    No sense in buying smaller ones and replacing them.

    I gotta wonder about your horizontal premise though. You won't be able to get an even burn all the way across and still maintain low temps....at least I wouldn't think you could.
