    Default Beef Chuck Eye Roast

Kroger in this area has boneless chuck roast on sale for $1.77/lb. Great deal on it's own, but I know that when they advertise it that cheap, it's a good time to look for chuck eye steaks on the cheap. They may cut more and push them at a good price in order to make a little more than the featured item and still offer a good value to the customer.

Well, sure enough, I found them for $2.27/lb. And Hello! What's this? Chuck eye roasts for the same price! I haven't seen them in years. I bought one about 4 inches thick.

I got some good pics of it in the wrap and seasoned up with JB's Fat Boy Rub Basic. Unfortunately, the SD card is stuck in my camera, and the camera won't turn on, even with new batteries. So I was unable to upload those pics.

But I got some crappy pics with my old camera.

After an overnighter languishing in the rub, I gave it a good sear on the Weber.

Made sure to hit all sides...

Then it went on the Topper at about 250 deg.

Here you can really see the similarity to a rib eye roast. I smoked it for a couple hrs. before putting it in a foil pan with a little water and cover.

Let 'er go til it reached 197 IT.

Meanwhile, I cooked up some Jasmine rice and some lady cream peas. Fried a few slices of bacon and kept some of the drippings and all the brown crud on the bottom of the skillet. Added the peas and simmered with some Tony C.'s

    Then added the chopped bacon.

I was treated to this sight when I peeled back the foil.

    Then I made my plate.

Summa da beef, and rice topped with lady peas and smoky au jus ladled over the whole mess. Mmmmm...mmmama! that was good!!

Y'all probly need to see that plate again.

Sorry for the sucky pix. Gotta get my other camera fixed. I hope y'all got some sense of how good this is.

I love chuck, in any form. I think it is the best flavored beef.
I am in shape. Round is a shape.

They're a type of field pea similar to black eyed peas. Milder flavor and no black eye. Kroger sells them in a can.
