Here is my project I have put off due to change of location. It is a 20" x 48" with a two foot fire box with stainless grill grates. It is constructed of 1/2" casing pipe so it holds the heat well, but makes it heavy for it's size.I have the material for the vertical smoker, and about a hundred foot of 2" angle iron for the frame and shelves, and I also have more stainless steel grill for the shelves for the front of the pit and above the firebox. She ain't much to look at, but she can cook. Kind of like a diesel engine, it takes a while for her to warm up, but when she does she's HOT

Looks like it does just fine. Better get it moved north!
The door on the front is a unique touch.

I have never seen a BBQ Pit like it until I met the father of one of my ex co-workers who is a backyard welder. He had never done double sided doors either. Come to think of it he had never done an offset until mine When we discussed the price of the BBQ pit one of my requests was to place 2 doors for easy access for the water pan etc. plus it makes for easy cleaning. It gives me the option to grill if I choose to.I can grill some burgers & brats then push the coals into the fire box, and start smoking or visa versa if I want to. It sounds funny, but for partys with kids, its convenient. Before it's all done half the door will be welded back to support the 4 1/2 foot vertical smoker. Like I mentioned it's an on going project. Once the frame is widened , and all the shelving is put on, the wood bin is put on, it will look alot nicer.

Hey Gunnt, I think you should add Doc's line " Why Johnny Ringo, you're no daisy, no daisy at all" to your sig. Great flick.

Where did you find the wire cloth for your grates? Is it stainless?

I need to find something a little more permanent for a fire grate in Lucille, my black honey.

Believe it or not I picked up the grates for $10.00 each they came in 4'x4' sheets. I picked them up from a guy who worked at a rock quarry, and yes they are stainless.
