Default Apple Smoked Apple Dumplin' on the drum

I smoked some apple dumplin's on my drum for dessert, using a bit of apple wood the other day..... hope to do some more tomorrow.

I peeled and cored the apple, then sliced into four pieces....
then sprinkled each layer with a cinnamon/brown sugar mixture.
I stacked the apple slices back in order on top of some pie dough...

Then topped with more cinnamon brown sugar and butter...

Wrapped the apple with the pie dough...

Gave the dumplin' a quick egg wash and sprinkled with more cinnamon/ brown sugar...

Into my drum to smoke for an hour with a bit of apple wood..

    Drizzled with warm caramel sauce....

Topped with whipped cream and pecans....

The apple was nice and tender....the slight apple smoke added so much flavor. I was a happy girl.

Thanks for checking out my dumplin' dessert!

That rips it! I'm southbound for Oklahoma. Not sure exactly where yet, I'll just follow my nose. Be watching for a silver Silverado 2500HD, old gray haired fat guy with a bib, drool running down his chin.

    Yer killin' me here Jeannie!

Ya know, I was thinkin' some home made apple butter might go with that. We just made 207 pints last weekend. It is really good heated in the nukeAlator and put over vanilla ice cream. Could work with a dumpling and some ice cream.

    Cowgirl,

Glad to see your cooking away on that drum. Those are some great pictures! You are down right mean and fendish! LOL

Yes! My favorite desert is apple dumplings of any kind!. Every one seems to have a favorite recipe and all are great.

She always made her dumplings the same way you do! She would then place them in a cake pan with the sealed side down. She would then make a simple syrup, 1 part granulated white sugar and 2 or 3 parts water, add a little vanilla, and some real butter. Pour the simple syrup over the dumplings to cover 1/2 to 2/3 deep. Then bake until all bubbly, gooyee, and brown on top. They were heavenly!!

If anyone tries this remember it has to be tough dough or it will fall apart during the poaching process. My mother always made tough pie dough. (She just over worked the pie crust and added to much water.)

    Jeannie, I am sooooo disappointed.

There is not near enough whipped cream on that.
