Default Question About Chicago and Area....

I am leaving here (Red Deer, Alberta, Canada) early Friday morning and am heading for Chicago (Pine Forest, actually). Will be stopping at The Battle of The Little Big Horn, Black Hills, and any BBQ joint found along the way. What I would like to know is:
Does anyone out there know where I could find some 22.5" Weber grills down in the south Chicago area? What are the best BBQ supply places to check out? I will be building some M.U.D. Smokers while there and need some supplies (like grills, handles, hinges, latches, high heat paint, thermometers, expanded metal for charcoal basket, etc.). Don't want to drag everything all the way down there from up here. I hope someone reading this can help in some way. Thanks in advance.

From Red Deer we go south to Great Falls, Montana and then on to Billings. It will be basically a straight shot into south Chicago from there. We usually go down through Minot, Fargo, Minniapolis/St.Paul, Madison and then down into Chi town. Takes us 2 long days. But this time we are going the other way so that I can show the grandkids where their great-grandfather fought in the Battle of the Little Big Horn. I was an invited guest back at the centennial deal in 1976 and I am sure there is a lot more to see now days. Really looking forward to this trip.

On the two units I made for myself here, I use a thermometer on each grill (two grills each) to get the grill temps. Just an oven thermometer and they work great. I need a couple of pit therms to mount through the sides at both grill levels and a couple of meat probe therms for when the meat is smoking. Cheaper the better I think as this trip will be enough as it is.
I hope to find a stoe or some place that carries them down there if I can. I don't have time to order them in up here before this Friday when I leave for Chicago.

Boss, just stop into any Lowes, Home Depot, or Menards that you see and you will find them. I know my Lowes sells the replacements for about $16.00. Happy Trails to You!

Actually, Willcat isn't from Chi. He lives a bit away.
Chargrilled Travis might be a better resource. He's in Hobart, IN, which is damn near Chicago.

For high heat paint - any O'Reilly Automotive store- VHT Flame Proof header paint, good to 2000F, not cheap but does what it claims. You will never see that temp on a drum. My stickburner fire box runs about 450-500 max and it has not fazed the paint.
