Someone talkin bout ME? Yes, I have used the new UDS. Still haven't figured it out yet. Can fire it up, open valve and two air holes and it will sit there at about 240 all day long. Thought you guys said the would go to 300-350. Only way this one will go that high is take the lid off and leave it off for about ten minutes then replace the lid. Will go over 300 and then settle back to 240ish over time. As for pics, haven't had the camera or just plain for got. Fixed pulled pork for the crew my son had helping replace his roof last weekend. and it did a great job. Haven't tryed chicken parts yet, because I haven't figured out the way to get it to 325 and stay there yet. By-the-way, it's ok to talk about me, cause that gives someone else a rest.

Hi Steve. Good to hear your fingers again I don't know what to tell you about your temps Mine has 3 valves, each 3/4 inch. Mine runs between 225 and 240 with just 1 open depending on the wind. I can run mine above 400 with 2 open and have had it to 450 by just barely cracking open the 3rd. Are you using lump?

If that is the same deign as my SDS Pineapple Express drum, it most likely only needs a larger chunnk of the fuel to be involved.

I mean, if you close it up with a fairly small nucleus of fire, it will run like that, but if you allow a larger core of fuel to get lit before closing the lid, it will run much hotter. How many holes are open on top?

Has 6-1" holes in top, all open. 3/4" ball valve and two 1/2" holes in bottom for vents. When lighting I light the basket in 3 places around the outer edge, all vents open, let set for approx 10 to 15 min. and put lid on. I haven't had be above 250 yet, except when you have the lid off for extended periods ie;cooked burgers at son's last weekend and had a grease fire, temp went up for a while and settled back to around 250.

Steve, mine is that same design. Eight 1" holes in lid, 3 - 1/2" holes at bottom (plugged), and 3/4" ball valve. I open one 1/2" hole, and 1/4 open valve, and runs 325 just fine. Try lighting a 6" circle of lump in the middle.

Oh yeah, what kinda lump you using?
