    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup soy or worcestershire sauce
    2 tsp. yellow mustard

    1/3 cup bacon bits
    1/3 cup grated apple
    1/3 cup grated onion
2 tsp. grated green bell pepper

bring all ingredients to boil EXCEPT FOR ONION, G. PEPPER, APPLE, then add produce, reduce and simmer until the house smells good. Cool and it will thicken.

There are a lot of apple orchards in S. Illinois. Also Pears, and Peaches. Most importantly grapes....good vino! His book is worth the read. Gives a lot of insight behind the people who embellish the true aspect of bbq. ALMOST as much as the people behind this site! I don't know much but Mike Mills; to me, is one of the real deals.

in my "research days" i grabbed a few bbq books to look thru. the 2 that i was told were must haves were Peace Love and BBQ and the other is Smokestack Lightening... Didn't care for the smokestack.. paints a bad pic of the very little north carolina bbq. BUT I really like mike's book. lots of good info and recipes.
