Default Wood box - clean it out?

What do you do with your wood box when you start a smoke? Do you dump it, even if it has some chunks still remaining? Save the chunks and dump the ash? Keep loading until it's too full for more wood and then dump it?

I'd just shake out the ash and re-use it. If it's wet, replace it.
