    Default Smokin' On Big Creek

Jane and I are judging Smokin' On Big Creek this coming Saturday over at Pleasant Hill, MO. KCBS certified judges only.
I judged it last year, very well run and organized comp.
47 teams plus Kids Q. It will be fun.
    Hope it does not rain!

That sounds like a blast...what does the "Kids Q" involve? Good to see they involve the kids.

That does sound like fun, Mike! I'm sure a bunch of us want to know what the kid q is all about.

Kids Q info - It's a great way to get them involved, this comp is one of the few that makes the kids cook at a central site instead of at the folks team location. They REALLY have to cook their entry. That is not always the case cooking at the team location and that really shows in the entries.
And this is a lot of fun. Some of them surprise you!

The Kids Q competition will have two age groups: 5 to 10 and 11 to 15.
There will be only one category in 2009. The event will also take place on Saturday morning this year as Friday evenings in April are often difficult for school children who cannot make it to the contest in time.
Turn in will be at 10:30 AM, in plenty of time for parents to get back to the work of the KCBS chicken category.
Each entered child entered in the 5 to 10 year age group will receive approximately one pound of wings (provided by Jeff Spurgeon, owner of KC Custom). At this point, the 11 to 15 age group meat has not been decided.
Garnish is optional and cooks choice (KCBS garnish rules do NOT apply).
Kids Q Cook's meeting will be at 9:00 AM at the Miller Lite Pavilion.
Kids will cook their entries at a central location at the contest rather than at the team camps.
Turn-in location will be the community building.
Winners for each age group will be announced during the contest awards ceremony at approximately 3:30 PM on Saturday, April 4.
Payout will be announced at the contest cook's meeting.

That sounds like a ton of fun for the little ones. I'm glad thaey do that. Probably makes the kids feel good, cooking with the big boys.
