    Default Turkeyfest 2008

    With Thanksgiving coming up in the States, it was time for our annual fry-fest known as Turkeyfest. A day to fry turkeys, eat, BS, and just enjoy the day.

    A little of this:

    We cooked 5 turkeys, 10.25 lbs to 14.5 lbs. (That's 5 to 6 kg.) There were no sides to be found, although snacks aplenty were there. Smoked cheeses, crackers, pretzels, and chips 'n dips abounded, but no real veg to be found. It was snack, snack, snack all afternoon. No plated pics because, well, there were no plates.

    We did have homemade marshmallows, though. We were supposed to have a chocolate fountain for dessert for the kids, but that was vetoed by the other adults (p-ed my wife off). The marshmallows were originally for that, but they'll go good with hot chocolate or some other treat.




    Thumbs up from the main critic. Guess I done good.

    And, of course, what's a fest without a T-shirt?



    BTW, yes, they fried the birds in the garage. We had high winds on Saturday, and the BIL couldn't get a windbreak to stay up. By the time we got there, they already were in the garage and had a bird in the oil. They're 'bout as sharp as a bowl of spaghetti, sometimes.

    X 2, looks good, love the comment on the BIL, the mrs make marshmellows from scratch?? and did they really deep fry all the birds, i hear its gooooood but have never tried it, well for many reasons i guess, let me know thx

    Yep, every one. The birds cook in 35-45 minutes or so, so we can cycle the birds through and folks have it ready for Thanksgiving or whatever. The BIL injected the birds, but since he injected about 15 minutes before cooking, most of it leaked out. I know *I* couldn't taste any of it.

    Just be careful if you try this. It can be dangerous if not done right.

    My shirt wouold just say "TURKEY 2008"

    Looks like a great time for all Rob! Thanks for sharing. Ya know, that's a great idea for seeing to it that everybody has sammie meat to take home on Turkey day, fry a bunch up a week beforehand.

    how do you make the marshmellows?? also it looked like a good time was had by all, love the shirt idea too, gonna have to do that for when we finally get to do the cook off. i have been thinking about a turkey fryer for a couple years now, just never believed that it would be as good, but i heard it here and that proves they must be good

    Yep, fried turkey is good. If you have wild turkeys in your area you could just light sabre a couple and fry them up.
    Or, maybe pick up a turkey at the local grocery.
    Turkey fryers work really nice with a cast iron pot (DO or such) and some oil to fry fish. We always have a fall crappie fillet/wild turkey breast fry. Fry the turkey first. Cut it in about 1" strips, roll it in a flour and Lawry's Seasoned Salt mixture, fry til golden. Eats best right out of the fryer (HOT!) with "something cool to drink"

    I wonder If a ATB would fry up nice or if the filling would come out.You think the bacon would cook if you breaded it like a popper?It would probably still be pretty hot without the long smoke to mellow the heat!
