Default 3rd comp, 2nd first place call

Results are in on the 21st annual Cherokee Strip comp, and the Q Joint officail /bbq team took first place in Chicken this time. We just sucked on everything else.

Still a lot of settling out to do and getting the new Backwoods Piglet ( much bigger unit) will make a big difference.

In the mean time, 2 first place calls in three comps ain't half bad is it?

Give us a little time to get a routine lined out and we'll make everybody proud. I promise.

Pix to come, too wasted tired right now.

I'm sure there will be some pics coming soon.
I only take 1 picture this round as with being too tired, busy and/or hungover.
Tim and curt will probaly chime in soon with some more.

we thought the pork to be a disaster before we turned it in and expected the worse.

The butts were too small and had very little fat content,They ended up a little dry. I personally have never had a dry butt in my entire life.

The cuts were just bad altogether. Due to the small size the muscles were limited in size to get the best slices. The money muscles were too small to cut.

We believe that cost us a bid portion of the scoring.
Judge 1 gave me 999 and judge 2 gave a 888 If they were more juicy we believe that we would have got a call on it.

The flavor scores of all 6 judges were 9 8 7 7 7 7 Those other 4 would have been better with juicier butts.

I don't have the score sheet with me and that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

We also should have soaked the pork in the sauce instead of poring the sauce over it. There is actually a lot of sauce on the pulled section soaked down into it. The picture doesn't really emphasize it that well.
We did wipe off the the sauce on the edge and tiny piece of pork before turning it in.

Either way we know what to do different next time

SO, TQJ Team Nice work on the chicken.

I should have stay in touch as Sat I did not end up leaving Tulsa until 5pm (original sch was 10.30am) so I probably could have stopped out for a bit but it would have been at the chaotic turn-in time. (noon)
