    Question Small UDS Question

I'm going to put together a UDS out of a 30 gal drum, with a kettle type lid. I'm not sure what size the charcoal basket should be. Is 12" diameter by 8" tall large enough or will I need larger? I will want to do some longer cooks.

Might be a bit small. I would make it the same size as an 18.5" Weber grill's charcoal grate is. You can buy them at HD or Lowes.

Thanks for your response. I bought an off brand 18.5 kettle at a good price that will work for the lid, but the charcoal grate is only 12", which just looked so small. HD will have a 14" or 15". I think Webers have a 14" charcoal grate in the 18.5 kettle.

    Thanks again.
