I done a dry run 2day,i built a coal box out of a spare steamer basket i had for veggies.and i used 4 dyna bolts for the legs...lol...and it's working,it's been holding a steady 220 for about 3 hrs now,and still going......I got the daisy wheel open and 2 of the 10mm inlets aswell.so far so good....here is the picts of the steamer basket...lol

I only used about 3 pounds of charcoal.

Good idea. Is your air flow going to be ok? Nice pic reflecting of you taking the pic, too.

It's just a muck around thing i did with that steamer basket, i was bored 2day, didnt even notice my reflection, i should of turned to my good side....hehehe.it seem's ok,checked it at 4hrs 15 minutes, and it had dropped down to 195, so not too bad concidering it was only 3 pounds of charcoal, maybe a bit less. ( geeez, im starting to sound like a yankie...lol )...i will be making a proper basket very shortly though....

I'd say if it works - it's proper. My concern would be that ash will pile up around the coals and cut off the air flow ... so maybe some larger holes for ash removal.

Good start for kicking around. Can't wait to see your proper basket

Doesn't look like it would hold much charcoal, but some holes to vent and drop ash would definetly get you a longer burn!

I don't know what the actual temp is, but it cooks the way I want it to, so I don't guess it really matters.

If you got it burning, why not throw on some sausage or something to help
    season it?

If it's proper, it should hold 10# of lump and hold 250f for as much as 24 hours.

My brother is making my new basket on monday night at work, the expanded metal will be 8 inches high welded around the weber grate with 4 inch legs on the bottom, think that should get me a few hours of cooking..lol
