    Very simple: Stewing beef/brisket/chuck are all brilliant with this dish. Fry up the meat which has been coated in flour until brown, remove from the pot. Fry up a large onion with a lot of minced garlic until tender. Add the meat and cook for a further 10 minutes. Add sliced carrots, sliced beans and cubed butternut, 1 pint of your favourite beer (my favourite is our award winning black label, 5.5% alc), add a pint of beef stock mixed with 2 heaped table spoons of hearty beef or oxtail soup powder. Stir it all together, close the lid for about an hour and a half. Continue to drink your favourite beer. Serve over pot bread, mashed spuds or rice.

    I think we would call that beef stew with beer. One of my faves.
