Just wanted to share with you guys what my wife is going through right now.

She has an acoustic neuroma which is basically a benign slow-growing tumor of the nerve that connects the ear to the brain. Locally the Doctors only do a handful of these surgeries a year and the chances are high of side effects (facial paralysis and hearing loss).

After doing extensive research she found the Doctors at the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles do several hundred of these surgeries a year with a very high success rate. She is electing to fly out to LA leaving Friday morning, having surgery on Dec 7 and returning home Dec 18.

This is basically a major brain surgery and she is scared.

We would appreciate it if you guys would keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Hi Chuck, we are keeping our you in our prayers and our fingers crossed for you folks. My wife just went through a major spinal operation to remove some discs and replace them with spacers and clean up the channel that the spinal cord passes through as the spinal cord was being compromised and would not let her walk. the repairs have to heal until April 1, then begins the rehab. After a bumpy start 2011 looks very promising. E.T.

Chuck, I'm sorry for not checking in on your wife. I guess sometimes life catches you up and you lose track. How is she doing?

Like was said, time gets away... Sorry that I havent been around lately to update you guys. Things have been kinda rough since then, especially the past couple of weeks. Her dad has been in bad health recently and he passed away Saturday. The funeral is today. Should be an experience for me as it will be full honors military and I have never been to one of those before.

Anyways, when she got home she developed facial paralysis. We were thinking "Oh no!!! This is the whole reason for going to CA for the surgery!" She called the Dr and was told that it is temporary. They said that swelling was pressing against a nerve causing the paralysis.

Luckily they were right! Whew!

She is doing just fine! No paralysis any longer. That only lasted a couple of weeks. She is in therapy right now but we are expecting her to get released to drive and go back to work any day now.

We want to thank TQJ for all of the prayers and well wishes. They worked guys!!!

Yeah Big Al... I have never been to a military funeral before. The Patriot Guard Riders escorted us to the cemetary. It was mostly frwy driving but we did see one young guy (20's) stand on the roadside with his ball cap over his heart. At the cemetary the military pall bears did their thing, a 21 gun salutue (actually a 9 gun salute), Taps, etc. This was very impressive.

I was able to hold the tears back during the funeral service but I let them go in the car. Just seeing the Patriot Guard Riders doing this for my F-I-L got to me as well as the kid on the side of the road.

Chuck, I'm glad for your wife; sorry for your FIL.

As for the military funeral service, I experienced that after my father died a few years ago. He was a WWII Navy vet. What a moving experience that was. The solemn respect given from the men in uniform who were many years younger was very touching.

God Bless! Celebrate your wife and never forget the sacrifice of those who serve.

Prayers sent.
