Probably disturb the paint a bit. I don't think you can get a drum that hot in cooking mode.
Now, if you take the lid off for a bit..............

Pretty cool, but landing and retrieving the pie through that narrow opening can be a challenge.

If you look at the pic on JR's link, the size of the slot looks to be similar to having the lid off.:shrug:

I've been following this guy who seems pretty determined to use his weber as a pizza oven. You'd probably want to source a second lid though. http://webercam.com/
