View Full Version : Probes for grill temps

Does any one use electric readout oven probes to get grill temp for the upper and lower grates?
If so do you put them on wood so they don't contact the metal grate. I don't think my current thermometer is very accurate plus I don't like its location.

I have. Cut a potato in half and stick the probe thru that to keep it off of the grate.

I drilled a hole in a small block of wood and place it on the cooking grate. I have used the "thermotater" in the past but like the block of wood better and drill it with a slight upward slant to keep it an inch or two above the grate. :twocents:

I'm a fan of the thermometater myself. There's nothing to keep track of between cooks.
