Im new to reverse flow smokers and I would like to know the best method to build a fire for the smoker. Do I use a combination of lump and wood? How much lump and wood is required to cook ribs for six hours. My smoker is a small backyard version its 30 inch by 24 inch dia. I have only cooked on it once ( it new three day old ) and I think my fire was to small took about 40 minutes to reach 220 degrees once it was there it was easy to maintain. The weather conditions were a bit windy. Thanks for any recommendations.

Some pix sure would help Gary.

How big is the firebox?

A lot of stickburners are a bit slow to come up to temp. They have a lot of metal to warm up.
