Just got back from Vancouver BC (Had a Blast). I stopped in at a local BBQ Joint with a friend and decided to try it out...

The Memphis Blues BBQ House...

First look at the place, small but cozy. Kind'a surprised that I smelled very little smoke in the place. Not a good sign...

The Menu...

Kind'a shocked me for a second, till I asked and the Priscilla Platter fed 12...

Just had to get me one of these T-shirts...

The smoker was a Ole Hickory...

Started out with two orders of the Smokehouse Chili, corn bread and chips...

Very rustic Chili and I got'a say "Freaking Awesome". Started off great...

Next the main's came. I had the combo plate with ribs and Brisket with 3 sides and my friend had the large Pulled Pork with 2 sides. I also had to have me one of those Czechoslovakian Beers.

Here's where it started to go down hill. The slaw was sub par (Mayonnaise and lemon juice) not good at all. The potato salad was terrible. The Memphis sauce came on the side and was OK. The beans were just Unbelievably fantastic just a perfect recipe. I got into the Ribs and they tasted like they were under a heat lamp for 6 hours. The Brisket was tender but dry and had very little smoke flavor with no smoke ring at all. I'm glad the chili and the beans were great...

MY friend had the Large PP that came with sauce on and two sides. I had a taste and it was OK. A little dry and very little smoke flavor. All in all I can't recommend this place to anybody that knows real Q. It's not real bad, but not a place to go out of you're way for.

Great Review, Zeek....
Looked like the prices were a little high for me.
Looks like a neat place and that Chili looks great!
I don't know what it is about BBQ Joints...I can't pass them up. I guess we're just a bunch of BBQ Snobs and we all need to see where the bar is from time to time.

Great reveiw Zeeker. The place looked neat.

As I travel the country I just have to try local BBQ joints as I find them. I have found that the ambiance of the place usually is better than the food although sometimes I am pleasantly surprised. I found the white sauce in Northern Alabama and a mustard sauce in SC interesting.

Great review Z man!

Looks like it was done by a pro.

do you suppose that they were hooked up to gas and did most of the cook w/o any wood? I see a lot of places that will cook 2 or 3 hundred pounds if meat with only 2 or 3 logs.

Thanx for sharing!

I was up in Canadia last fall and couldn't believe how high food was. I mean a standard burger and fries was about $8.

I gotta wonder how much of that cost was VAT/GST that they have up in Canada. The last time I bought a case of Molsen across the Border, the tax on it was almost as much as the beer cost. $28 bucks US isn't cheap for a case of beer.

The majority of it is tax. I have a friend who is a Barcardi rep. He sells to the Liquor Board for $32/case. In the Liqour store those same bottles are $32 EACH. That's how the government pays for our socialized medicine. All I can say is thank God I don't smoke, the taxes on those will kill you long before the tobacco does.

Mike's first rule of BBQ joints -

If you can't smell smoke it ain't a barbecue joint

Write that down.
