Anyone tried growing a pineapple plant?

I grilled a fresh one in early March and saved the crown for fun. I planted it in a pot today and realized I went from this:

I'm especially proud of this one as I usually kill any plant I have. Now I've managed to start a pineapple growing. Even with my wife's comments about "Are you sure it isn't dead?"

I've never tried growing one, but it'll be interesting to see if you can make it work.

Fresh pineapple sure is good eats.

Rob,
Did you eat that pineapple or did it die?

I was born on Maui.My father is from Kaleheo,Kauai and my mother is from Makawao,Maui. My Father worked on a Pineapple plantation as a child.Worked his way up into the motor pool.
I don't talk about it much because people always start talking about the islands like I should know. But the truth is I was just born there because my father got ulcers real bad so they packed up my family and opened a store in my moms building.Once he healed up I don't think I was even one years old they moved back to California.

I remember Him planting some in half barrels when I was younger.I don't think he did anything special to them.

Ate the spears in the photo. The top is doing very well as a plant. It'll be another year or so before I get a fruit from it, but I'm just glad I've kept it alive this long.

Rob, you did plant two plants didn't you? Takes 2 years for plants to bear fruit unless treated to bear early. Usually need 2 or more for pollination.
