Or is that spelled crappie?

We had a couple left over hoagies from last night's cuban sammiches and we hadn't fried any crappie for a while, so we had crappy sammiches.

I didn;t want to bore anyone with a play by play, and my hands stayed kinda messy during the process, so I just though I'd share a finished pic.

It consists of a whole wheat hoagie roll, grilled in butter, then tartar sauce on the bottom followed by sliced sweet onion, then crappie, then cheese, then cole slaw, then crappie, the....Well, you get the idea.

We ate it with fresh melon, tater salad, and a plate full of these:

Hope it invokes appetite.

Crappie with anything but tarter should be a sin! That's my second favorite fish behind largemouth bass, but the sammie looks great :)

Did you use Zatarans? Looks similar to mine when I fry fish.

Dang that looks good. For mine, hold the tartar, onions, slaw, and bread. I just want the fish.:thumbs up::drooling::drooling::drooling:

We had that for a side too!:roflmaoha0:

I make a fish dredge with corn flour, corn meal, and my "Seafood Slather" seasoning. It's similar to Zatarains, but with a little more seasoning. Zatarain's gets too expensive when you use a lot of it.

Thanx for the kudos guys.:sign0092:

Where did you get the crappie? Fresh caught or did you have it frozen?

I caught a lot of crappie through the ice last year. When they are frozen one minute after you catch them, they are one of the best fish you will ever eat.

I don't have too much prollem eating them even when they aren't.:blushing::eating:

We usually keep them live until we get back from the lake, then ice them down and stick them in the fridge in a bucket for a day or two before we fillet them.

I used to freeze them in ice water in a Ziplock, but then I discovered the
Food Saver. It seems to keep them better.

:wo: Catch & release only. They ain't for eating.

Best eating fish are walleye & crappie with catfish right in there.

Anyone know what tilapia are used for and where they get them???

They're poop eaters, used in Wastewater treatment....saw that on Dirty Jobs....I still eat talapia from time to time, but it's not even close on my top fish list.

Jonesers top 5 Fish List: (not necessarily in that order)

Rainbow Trout
Blue Gill
Lake Perch
Crappie
Walleye

I'm in concurrence with the exception of the rainbow.

I never could find any flavor in tilapia, or orange roughy either.
