We've been eating maters for the last couple weeks. As with most years, the first couple weeks of garden fresh heirloom maters, we don't much want to adulterate the flavor with anything more than salt and pepper.

After a while though we start doing a few other things with them. One of the first is always the BELT sammie.

Here are a few pix of this year's first

Fixins:

Sammie being built:

And yes, that is an over easy egg that puts the E in BELT:

Last, but not least, the finished product:

No, but I will.

I just love the runny yolk that runs down between the slices of bacon.

:thumbs up: Love it! Haven't had a BLT this year, and never had one with an egg. I'll have to give that a try.

Right now we're between tomato seasons down here. We had fresh maters for a while, but it's too hot to get maters right now. If we can keep the plants going, we'll get some good maters later in the season, though.

I miss the homegrown tomatoes we had when I lived in CA (bay area) as a kid That adobe soil was great for maters. I used to grab the salt shaker and head for the garden when I wanted a snack.

We then moved to Fla. and grew some awesome beefsteak tomatoes in that sandy soil. One slice would overlap a burger!

Why do you not still grow them?
