I found these growing a little uphill from the ditch where I found the others a couple weeks ago.

Man, these things are huge.

I think I should've found them yesterday though, most of them are real soft and crumbly.

The reason I need a mushroom expert is to help me figure out what to do with them.

The ones that crumbled real bad were thrown out in the yard where I'm going to plant my Morel bed ( another mail order story), along with the rinse water.

what should I do with the other crumbly ones? should I try to fry them or saute them? should I just dehydrate them and use them in mushroom sauces, etc. later on?

They are too special to waste, but I really think they are too far gone to do what I would normally do with them.

Aww...I need a ditch like that around here!
If they're too crumbly, you could go the sauce/dehydration route....If they'll hold together, I'd saute them up.

Do you think they get any firmer by cooking? If they don't, they'll just fall apart. Most of them fell apart just rinsing them.

If they are that crumbly, you might be better off putting them into a sauce of some sort.

Tim,

I like to take the crumbly ones (or regular, diced) and mix with egg and crunched up ritz crackers. Mix and stir the sliry to a thick consistency. Spoon into hot oil and fry them to taste.

Morels do get pretty big when you live by a dump.

These are so crumbly that I think they would turn to nothing by the time I mix them up. Do you think they would still be good?

If you do, I'll just try it.

I'd toss the shrooms and go back to find the plant the $5 bills came from.

I made some of Josh's shroom balls last night. I took a couple pix. I'll try to get them posted tinight. They were pretty good.
