I was looking around in the freezer yesterday and found a ham bone an and some chunks of ham from the last double smoked ham I did. So, I figured a big pot of ham and beans sounded good.:msn-wink:

Put the ham and beans into a big pot. On the stove this morning to slow cook all day

Darn, now I have to smell this cooking all day.:msn-wink:

They are extra large white lima beans, they also call them butter beans in some parts of the country.:msn-wink:

Looking great Jim!:thumbs up:

Jake, butter beans have a texture similar to other beans, but they are a bit sweeter that nay or pinto beans.

Lip smackin beans Jim. Had em 2-3 time a week when I was a kid during the war. I've tried to duplicate my grand mothers recipe but it falls short. Just have to keep trying

When my Grandma made her beans she used a ham bone ( no chunks of ham ) and saltpork in hers. They were good.:thumbs up:

My grandmother used the hard rind from the bacon. No such thing as packaged bacon then, just the slabs.
