...when I saw this out in front of an antique shop.

He sometimes grilled steaks or burgers on one of these, but he was most fond of cookin' beef roasts on the spit. He would sit out on the patio of our California home and baste the meat with his own concoction of sauce between sips of bourbon.

No lid to close, just the hood to partially contain and reflect heat. The grill height was adjustable with a lever in front. This one appears to be in back, but that's just because they have the hood on the front rather than the back as intended.

Well, that's how it was done back in the early sixties. Anyone else remember these?

OH ...Oh....Oh... Mista Tomshoots I DO!! Dad had one till the twister blew it away back in '71, I can still taste the burgers sausage, ribs, chicken & chuckroll, that was cooked on it. I would have had to own that piece just because. I used to sleep on an Army cot just like that one too at the Deer lease.

My Granddad had one from sears he got back in 69 or 70. The warming area had a door on his. He used it until the late 80's when the bottom burned out.

There was a herd of beef and tons of chicken cooked through that thing.

Good memories Tom! He's the one who first started me cookin outside. He'd always hand someone a napkin and say "can ya get that off the back of my neck?" Lol old guy humor.
