I've been lovin' my Emeril by Viking grill as y'all might have guessed by my many posts. One of the negatives of this grill is that it doesn't seal very well around the lid.

Weber is superior in this regard. Closing the lid and vents after a cook snuffs out the fire almost immediately on a Weber. Leftover charcoal can be saved for the next cook. Not so much on the Viking. I can actually see daylight if I peak through the exhaust vent toward the back of the lid.

Well I finally got around to workin' on that last Friday.

First I removed the lid and cleaned inside and all around the channel where it makes contact with the fire bowl.

Then I put in a thin bead of high temp silicone gasket material. Then covered the bead with strips of wax paper.

All the way around.

Then put the lid in place and let the weight of it press the goo in place and properly shape it.

After setting for several hours, I removed the lid and peeled off the wax paper.

Not the neatest lookin' job, but it made a vast improvement. Needs a little tweakin', but it's way better now. I can shut 'er down after cookin' and still have lots of coals left the next day.

:cheer::cheer:

Thank's for stoppin' by!

Good job Tom. It's always a good feeling when you can take a great product and make it perform better. Simple mods can make a huge difference.

BTW .. it's steak night ... can I get some sauteed mushrooms with mine???
