View Full Version : Redneck taters au gratin

I start by peeling then slicing 5 or 6 potatoes thin. While I am slicing taters, I slowly render out 8 or 10 strips of bacon to get 3 or 4 tablespoons of bacon grease without browning the bacon. Remove the bacon from the pan and stir in 4 tablespoons of flour and a cup and a half of milk to make a basic thin white sauce, then add a handful or two of sharp cheddar cheese to make a cheese sauce. Cover the bottom of the dish with a layer of potatoes, salt, pepper, a sprinkle of cheese and a ladle of sauce. Add another layer of potatoes and so on till the dish is full. Top with more cheese and partly cooked bacon. 350 degrees for 90 minutes or so

ready for the oven

fresh out
