That I would never have need to post in this forum, but today, that hope has come to an end.

It is with very heavy heart that I tell all of you that my lovely wife of 33 years, who many of you know as The Okette, has been diagnosed with moderate stage Multiple Myeloma. This is a cancer of the bone marrow platelets.

She started chemotherapy today. With the best of luck, she will undergo chemo for 4 or 5 months and then be evaluated for candidacy as a stem cell recipient. If she is lucky enough to respond well to the chemo and get the stem cell transplant, the odds are in her favor. If not, the odds are not good.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. We will miss her very much if we lose her.

You may call on me for anything. If you have any questions about anything or need access to resources let me know and I can help. You got my number.

Remember, help also means finding a minute or two to distract yourself from the seemingly overwhelming conversations in your head. You have a couple thousand friends here in the forum to keep you grounded; myself included.

TQJ forum may not be the appropriate place to address this but I am a trauma nurse. I challenge all of you to consider volunteering as potential bone marrow donors. It is a very simple blood test to determine your eligibility and potential donors hip. The life you save may be someone you care for very much.

All the best Tim, to you and yours. We are here for you

Tim - Give Cindy a hug for me. You know that I'm just a call away if you need anything. We never expect this kind of thing to happen to someone we know and it's very sad when it does.

Keep the Okette strong and don't forget to keep yourself strong too. Prayer for the both of you.

Zeeker, we don't view it as sad. Instead, we view it as a challenge, and we have risen to meet many challenges together in the past.

In a way it is good. She had been fighting severe osteoporosis for a year and a half. We knew that her bones were deteriorating, but didn't know why. That was particularly frustrating because there was really nothing to fight. Now, we have something to fight.

Well said Tim. Reminds me of a old Triumph song. "Fight The Good Fight". Again all the best...

Late on this, certainly not something I wanted to hear from a good friend.
Appears the chemo is to prepare her for the stem cell therapy using her own stem cells. Hope it is successful.
She's a fine lady.
We're pulling for both of you.

Hi Tim, Have been out of state and country for a couple of months and have just got back and around to the forum.

My heavy heart goes out to The Okette and you and your family.
I had the same situation two years ago with my brother. He was fortunate that they discovered it in time. He went through his treatments for a long time and is in remission now. The imune system is a little weaker but otherwise doing ok.

Prayers be with you my friend and your family. E.T.
