question about rubs

What exactly is a finishing rub? I heard it on the BBQ pit masters, and seen it on a few forums.
also Is it the same as the first rub applied to your meat?
is there any advantage to using it?

Normally its a different rub to build layers of different flavors that compliment each other. Remember comp teams are trying to "WOW" you with just one bite.

I like competition ribs, but the flavors are too intense (sweet) to eat a whole rack.

A finish rub or finish powder is a finely powdered rub that can be dusted lightly over even the cut side of the meat as it goes in the turn in box. It is usually high in MSG and is just a little "insurance" that the judge will not get a "blind spot" of no flavor where they choose to bite.
