This is a variation of Raichlen's Lemon Brown Sugar sauce. The lime isn't as sharp as the lemon, but it gives it a great backdrop of flavor, IMO. The zest doesn't mellow as much as the lemon, so go easy at the start and add as you go.

Rob's Lime Special Sauce

3 cups ketchup
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoon grated lime zest (use less if you don't like lime flavor)
6 tablespoons fresh lime juice (start with less, and add to taste)
3 tablespoons molasses
1 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons liquid smoke
3 teaspoons dry mustard
1 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon all-spice
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1. Combine the ingredients in a nonreactive saucepan and whisk to mix.

2. Gradually bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat and let simmer until thick and flavorful, 8 to 10 minutes. Taste for seasoning, adding more molasses, zest, or juice if necessary. Transfer the sauce to a bowl or clean jars and let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate the sauce, covered, until serving time; let it return to room temperature before using. The sauce can be refrigerated for several weeks.

If you want a bit of heat, a dash or 2 of hot sauce (Tabasco or Franks, for example) works great. It adds a layer of flavor and gives it a little extra kick.
