I like Head Country and Blues Hog too, KC Masterpiece has its place as well, but I think that Stink Eye has become the declared favorite around the Okie Ranch.

Right now it can be hard to get, but I am working on changing that.

What is your favorite?

Deb's is my favorite but HC is good too. I also dig Sweet Baby Ray's with a finely chopped onion and chipolte in adobo and thinned down with apple cider vinegar.

While I really like Dave, I don't personally care for Famous Dave's sauces.

I haven't tried them all though. Which one do you like the best Brian?

Rich and Sassy is a good one. Next would be a toss up between Devils Spit and Texas Pit. Depending on my mood.
My BIL tells me there is a new one called Wilburs Revenge that is super hot....

I picked up a bottle of that last time I was in KC. We just opened it a week or so ago. We thought it was good, but I don't think it will become a regular around here.

OK then that settles it. I gotta get a bottle and try some. I sampled a little at the KCBS trade show last January and it didn't stand out too much, but I suppose that maybe I didn't give it a full shot.

Tim, the Bone Suckin Sauce isn't all that great. I've just become partial to it because of the the kids, as a family we prefer SBR's various flavors but the BSS is something different. We have also done several varieties of dipping sauces with Pulled Pork and they seem to like Jack Daniels #7 for that or a mixed concoction of SBR Hickory Smoke sauce and some Ranch dressing which tastes like the sauce Red Robins sells with their Tower of Onion Rings. I have a homemade sauce but they only like that on chicken. I have to admit though that the BSS is better on ribs when given 20 minutes or so to glaze in the smoke than it is on the finger dip taste test!

WTF is Ted Head?

Danny Head and Paul Schatte run Head Country Foods and always have. the sauce is still made and bottled in Ponca City using the same recipe.

Cary Head runs the Head country restaurant.

Sticky pig makes a couple that I like, but the Jalapeno Sauce is the best. The mustard sauce is really good on pork loin and poultry.

Cary Head runs the Head country restaurant.

I could have his first name wrong.. but, about 30-35 years ago an older man from Shidler Ok. last name Head, made the sauce at his house. The Osage county cattlemans association has a BBQ and dance every year. The gentleman from Shidler provided the sauce. It became very popular and he started selling it in the stores around Ponca City and Pawhuska. Then it became so popular he started mass producing it in a plant in Ponca. I grew up on a ranch in Pawhuska and have went to the BBQ and dance every year since I was a kid and I know a little bit about how the sauce got started. But it still seems to me that the old man's name was Ted. But as I said, I could have his first name wrong.

A quick phone call gave the following info.

Uncle Bud was the formulator of the original Head Country sauce. His name was Donavon Fred Head.

While he sold sauce around the local feed stores, etc, It was Danny that moved to Ponca from Shidler in 1980 and brought the company into its own.

Fred/Ed, easy jump to make.

A combination of Gates Spicy and Rosedale sauces are an easy rib mop.

KC Masterpiece isnt to bad neither is Jackstack.

When I was in Iraq I had a box full of BBQ sauce. When I had the opprotunity to eat at the chow hall I'd grab a random bottle and go. Over there a little flavor went a long way.

We like Head Country, and have really liked Stink Eye. If you want Stink Eye, order it through US BBQ supply. Stink Eye has a website as well, but they took my money and "forgot" to send the product. I guess Tim could teach those boys a little something about "customer service".

With a wild imaginary flavor of barbecue sauce hidden in my mouth, I started buying individual commercial sauces as I found them and discovered a high percentage of them have a lot of high fructose corn syrup as their main ingredient. For us this is a big turn off...I have seen so many great sauces created from raw ingredients and cooked to make a flavorful bodied taste without some dangerous oddities added to it. Since I'm gonna over eat it anyway, it might as well be better for me than corn sugar syrup!
